Defending Taylor Book Review

There are no mistakes in love.

Captain of the soccer team, president of the Debate Club, contender for valedictorian: Taylor’s always pushed herself to be perfect. After all, that’s what is expected of a senator’s daughter. But one impulsive decision-one lie to cover for her boyfriend-and Taylor’s kicked out of private school. Everything she’s worked so hard for is gone, and now she’s starting over at Hundred Oaks High.

Soccer has always been Taylor’s escape from the pressures of school and family, but it’s hard to fit in and play on a team that used to be her rival. The only person who seems to understand all that she’s going through is her older brother’s best friend, Ezra. Taylor’s had a crush on him for as long as she can remember. But it’s hard to trust after having been betrayed. Will Taylor repeat her past mistakes or can she score a fresh start?

I did not start reading the Hundred Oaks series until this summer. I just always assumed I would not like the books. Then one day I decided to read Catching Jordan, and I could not put it down, next thing I know I am done the first six books in the series within a couple of weeks. After writing my post about books I still haven’t read I decided to go ahead and read  Defending Taylor, and was I the only one getting The Wrong Side of Right flashbacks?… but in a good way, of course.

I should say that it was not in any way identical to The Wrong Side of Right, which is one of my favorite books. Both books had a father running for election for some government position and both had a daughter who managed to mess things up somehow . For some reason I love books that have fathers or other family members working in government because I feel as if it creates another set of issues that does not include boy problems.

When you think about Miranda Keneally’s books it might seem as if all the books are about  falling for a guy in high school (seriously what is in that schools water??) but I liked this book because it dealt with issues like family and life choices. One down fall was that it only touched on the drug issue. I would have liked it to delve further into that topic, but I do not think that was what Keneally wanted. Taylor’s family also was not my favorite part of this book because I felt they were putting to much pressure on a seventeen year old. AND the romance might have gone a little to fast for me, I felt that there was not enough build up. I do have mixed feelings on that though because some books also have the opposite problem where the book just ends right when they get together and I am left wanting to know more.

So by that last paragraph you might be questioning if I actually liked the book, but I did. The flaws in this book were not big enough for me to want to stop reading or label it as my least favorite book in the series. I do not think out of all these books I have a least favorite! This book makes you think about your choices and aspirations in life and choosing to do something different with your future. Oh, and lets not forget about the cute romance that Keneally always includes.

Those of you who loved Catching Jordan but have chose not read this…. CHANGE YOUR MIND because there may or may not be a really short story about Jordan in the back of the book….. (if that does not change your mind then I do not know what else to tell you)

Gilmore Girls Cookbook

img_2753img_2756 img_2769img_2771

*This book is the unofficial cookbook for Gilmore Girls fans*

I think I squealed a little when I found out this was an actual book. My mom, sister and I are obsessed with Gilmore Girls and have been watching it for years. It started when it was on ABC Family (or freeform?) around dinner time (does anyone else remember that??) and we would sit around the kitchen and watch the episodes. Over the years we have watched the episodes 100000 times and even went as far as to buy all the seven seasons on DVD. Then it came on Netflix so I guess buying the episodes was kind of unnecessary.

THEN NETFLIX MADE MORE EPISODES and it was the best part of 2016. So of course being a Gilmore Girls obsessed person I just had to buy the cookbook. Each recipe reminds you of a different episode and makes you wish you had Suki as your best friend to make you all the recipes. I am definitely going to try and make some of these recipes and pretend I am in Stars Hallow sitting at Lukes Diner.

This book was such a good idea and I love how Kristi Carlson would talk about what episode each recipe is from. If you have the cookbook, what do you think of it? and if you watched the new episodes on Netflix, what did you think of them because I still don’t know what to make of it!!

Books I Would Rather be Reading than Studying

(yes I know the books in the featured image are not the books shown above, I just do not own any of the books yet)

Last week I had exams which means no books and a lot of studying. So of course instead of studying I thought of all the books I would rather be reading. So here is the list I came up with during those long few days where all I was supposed to be doing was studying.

The Distance from Me to You by Marina Gessner: Yes, I know this book came out a couple of months ago but I STILL HAVE NOT READ IT! I don’t know why but of course I thought about it during exam week and now I think I am just going to go ahead and buy it.

Defending Taylor by Miranda Kenneally: Another book that I have been putting off but that is because I love the Hundred Oaks series and am worried this book might let me down (even though I have loved every single book in that series).

The Way Back to You by Michelle Andreani: Why have I not read this book? I have no idea but I will soon, I promise…… ok maybe I can’t promise… This is just another book I am so excited to read but at this point am worried it will let me down.

Diplomatic Immunity by Brodi Ashton: At first I cover judged…. I am embarrassed to admit it but I did….. and then I read the synopsis and now I need to read it!!! Never read about new books during exam week, never.

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell- I know, I know this book came out forever ago and I feel like it is a crime to not have read it by now, but I haven’t and I am ashamed. This book got such great reviews but I have not brought myself to actually buy the book. Heres hoping that in 2017 I will finally read this book!! or just try again next year…….

I am going to stop there because I am suddenly very stressed out about the fact that I have so many books to read and I feel as if there is not enough time! This is only a couple of the books that have been sitting in my TBR for FOREVER and only decided to think about them at the most inconvenient time….. during exam week.

The Secret of a Heart Note Book Review

25165389Book Summary:

An evocative novel about a teen aroma expert who uses her extrasensitive sense of smell to mix perfumes that help others fall in love while protecting her own heart at all costs

Sometimes love is right under your nose. As one of only two aromateurs left on the planet, sixteen-year-old Mimosa knows what her future holds: a lifetime of weeding, mixing love elixirs, and matchmaking—all while remaining incurably alone. For Mim, the rules are clear: falling in love would render her nose useless, taking away her one great talent. Still, Mimosa doesn’t want to spend her life elbow-deep in soil and begonias. She dreams of a normal high school experience with friends, sports practices, debate club, and even a boyfriend. But when she accidentally gives an elixir to the wrong woman and has to rely on the lovesick woman’s son, the school soccer star, to help fix the situation, Mim quickly begins to realize that falling in love isn’t always a choice you can make.

At once hopeful, funny, and romantic, Stacey Lee’s The Secret of a Heart Note is a richly evocative coming-of-age story that gives a fresh perspective on falling in love and finding one’s place in the world.

Have you ever been so excited to read a book and then when you finally read it is a let down. Sometimes I think I build a book up so much in my head that I am just setting myself up for being left down. I was so excited to read this because the plot was so different and interesting but from the very beginning of the book I could not get into the story. The whole book I kept thinking that I would eventually start loving it but it never happened.

I liked the main character but she was not very relatable. I could not relate to anyone in this book and it really frustrated me because that is what makes me so interested in a book and keeps me reading. I also thought there were so many different characters that I found myself trying to figure out who was who again, even after I was halfway through the book! I do not usually have that problem so I knew this was not a good sign……

After reading this book I wonder if maybe I need to read books where the main character is older. It kind of scares me to think that I might be growing out of some YA books. But can you ever really grow out of YA? Has anyone ever had this problem?

So while the aromateurs topic was really interesting it was not enough to make me love it. If you read it or have read the book tell me down below what you thought of it. Were you as underwhelmed as I was? Somebody please tell me I am not the only one who was not into this book!!

Something I’m Loving- Bare Minerals

Lipgloss: Bare Minerals (similar) Powder Foundation: Bare Minerals

Taking a break from books and traveling and whatever else I have been talking about on here…. here is a makeup review! I am not the makeup expert but I know something works when after I am done using it you can no longer see the acne or redness that is on my face.

I do not live near a Sephora or any other beauty store (unless you count Walgreens!) which sucks so I buy most of my makeup at the drugstore. I never cared before, but recently I decided some drugstore makeup was no longer cutting it so I had to look for something new. That was when I decided to look into what stores I did have around me….. and thats when I found a Bare Minerals. After trying multiple different kinds of foundation I realized that I hated putting liquid foundation on my face and I discovered powder foundation. People might think it doesn’t stay on long, and maybe that is true (I don’t know, I’m not the expert!!!!) but I love it because it feels like I am not wearing makeup at all.

So if you hate liquid foundation like me I suggest you try a powder foundation because it is amazing! And as you see above I decided to add my favorite lipgloss by Bare Minerals too. Trying darker lip colors and this one actually looks good on me! And the gloss is initially light ad you layer if you want it darker. Personally I like this because I still am not ready for super dark colors.

So what kind of makeup do you use? what is your favorite brands? Give me suggestions so I can check them out!

Before I Fall Book Review

Was I only one not expecting it to be a movie but now is super excited?!

I read this book awhile ago but with the movie coming out I decided to go ahead and write a review of it incase you are debating on reading it too. Initially I was not going to read this book. I usually try to read books that make me feel happy and leave me feeling like everything is perfect in the world. However, sometimes after reading my tenth cheesy young adult book in a month I decide maybe it is time to stray and try something new. Well this book certainly had romance but it did not leave me feeling warm and happy. It left me thinking and kind of sad….. and I loved it.

This book is about growth and seeing beyond the little world you and your friends created. The main character dies at the very beginning of the story and the whole book is about her reliving the same day seven times. During those days she begins to learn new things and….. I am going to stop there before I give anything away. Just trust me when I say the book really focuses on the main characters growth  in those seven days.

So if you do decide to read Before I Fall do not be alarmed…. you will hate the main character in the beginning, you might hate the main character all throughout the book. I will not promise you that in any point of the story you will love (or even like) the main character.

This book will leave you thinking and maybe by the end you will feel a little sad or angry too. And that is why I have a love/hate relationship with this book. BECAUSE OF ALL THE EMOTIONS! Anyways, I highly suggest you read the book. It might seem dumb in the beginning but it gets better as the story goes on.

And if you did read it, please please please comment what you thought of it because I HAVE TO KNOW!!!!

Snow Day, the best day

Hat: South Moon Under

I love snow days (but doesn’t everyone?) I believe that snow days are the best days ever and when they come around you have to revel in it because who knows when it will happen again. They are the only days when you do not feel bad about staying inside all day in your pajamas. These photos are from the only time I decided to venture out into the snow. It was still snowing when I went outside so I had to use an umbrella so the camera would not get wet!

We got our dog in April, and even though she is ten and has definitely seen the snow before, this was our first time seeing how she reacted to the snow. She is such a princess and refuses to go outside when it rains so I definitely thought she would hate the snow, but she LOVED it. She was having so much fun running around and it was so fun to watch her.

So while I am here I decided to give you guys a list of things that I have to have before bracing the frigid temperatures and walking in the snow:

Chapstick– my lips are always and they are even worse in the winer. You can never go wring with bringing chapstick incase they get really cracked.

Hats– No one wants to be walking outside and suddenly cannot feel their ears. Grab a hat because if you don’t  you will one hundred percent regret it later.

Scarf– Only thing worse than your ears being cold is your neck. Just do not put yourself through that get yourself a scarf, gloves…. etc

Sunglasses– This sounds random but after a snowstorm and it is sunny again and there is still lots of snow you walk outside and squint. So wear those sunglasses so you do not accidentally slip on ice you could not see. I do not suggest wearing these playing in the snow though. Maybe if you are just going on a stroll?

What do you need during a snowstorm and want do you do?

The Ultimate Travel Book

Travel Book: Amazon Travel Notebooks: (Similar) Anthropologie

I stumbled across this book awhile ago and wrote it down so that I could get it for christmas. By the time christmas rolled around I completely forgot about the book and since opening it I have become obsessed with looking at it. The pictures are beautiful and there are travel tips in the book which is such a nice touch! I have a big interest in traveling and this book includes places I have never even heard of but now want to add to my list of places I want to go. The book also came with a map with some of the places they mentioned labeled, which just made me love the book even more! It is also the perfect book to keep in your bedroom or living room so that you can flip through it from time to time.

I also included a traveling notebook that I got from anthropologie. They are so cute and inside you can write anything you want about the places you have been. I could not find it online anymore but there is a very similar one on the website with a floral print.

I like finding books or notebooks that will add little touches to my room. What kind of notebooks or books are you interested in? If you know any  websites that have pretty notebooks or journals tell me down below!

Book Series I Loved in Middle School

As I was getting rid of books on my bookshelf I became a bit nostalgic over the books series I loved as a kid. I was finding it extremely hard letting go of a book series that I probably will never read again but was such a big part of my childhood I just could not let them go. So here is a list of books that I absolutely loved as a child and may still be hoarding in my room:unknown

The Clique

THESE BOOKS! Honestly even if you are eighteen years old you should still read these books.every middle school girl should read these books. I read the Clique series when I was in elementary school (which seems kind of young) and was absolutely obsessed with it. I know I said middle school in the title but I reread these so many times in middle school I count it. One of my friends and I wanted to talk and be just like Massie…. which probably was not a good thing. I do not think I will ever get rid of these books because whenever I look at them the nostalgia is real. Oh.. and do not get me started on how much I loved the movie. unknown-1

The Mother Daughter Book Club

This series I stumbled upon in middle school when I was on amazon looking for new books to read. I loved how everyone mom and daughter would get together and talk about a book together. These books were actually the reason why I started to read some of the classics. unknown-2

So I read all of these in middle school and looking back on it I can not believe my mom let me read the last book in the series. In middle school I was in love with this series and thought they were the best books ever. Now looking back on it I do not know why I liked the book so much, maybe because I thought that it was cool I was reading a book that seemed like an “adult” book (even though it was not). This was one series I was actually willing to part with.

What kind of books did you read in middle school? If you read any of these, what did you think of them?

Traveling in 2017

Happy New Year! Sorry I am just now saying that, but I hope everyone had a great day. I have decided to make another travel post of places I want to go because I had so much fun making the last one. So here are the places I want to travel to in 2017 (does not actually mean I will)unknown-1

1. Edinburgh, Scotland

While the weather may not always be sunny I think the old buildings and the view of the Edinburgh castle will make up for it. I am such a sucker for old buildings and places rich with history. I love hearing about old myths or tales that come along with these places. Edinburgh seems like the perfect place to just wonder around and look at the sites. The fact that J.K. Rowling supposedly wrote Harry Potter here makes it ten times betterarboles_que_merecen_un_viaje_317219947_1200x800

2. Redwood National Park, California

This might make me seem like the biggest nerd but walking through the forest with massive trees all around you sounds incredible. Some of these trees have been around for hundreds of years! What really makes me want to go to the national park is the fact that you can drive or walk through trees.unknown-2

3. Salzburg, Austria

While researching different countries I wanted to visit I found Austria. I have never really thought about visiting Austria until I saw such pretty pictures of the country. Particularly Salzburg stood out and that was when I realized… this is where the sound of music was filmed. So now how could I not go visit Salzburg!unknown

4. St Lucia

I usually love cold weather but looking at these sunny pictures from the Caribbean is suddenly making me wish I was on the beach. I think warm weather is calling my name…. unknown-3

5. Arosa, Switzerland

This looks like the cutest little ski town. I know what I said about wanting warm weather… but since I have not been skiing in forever (don’t even know if I still know how!) this is sounding pretty appealing too. Plus, just look at the view of those mountains, amazing!
